📍 Understanding Srebrenica’s Tragic Past
Upon arrival in Srebrenica, your guide will take you through the town, explaining how this once-peaceful valley entered history as the site of Europe’s worst atrocity since the Holocaust. In July 1995, despite being declared a UN safe zone, the town fell to Serbian paramilitary forces, leading to the systematic massacre of over 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys.
Thousands of women, children, and elderly were forcibly deported, with many suffering abuse and execution. This dark chapter of history is now remembered through the Srebrenica Potočari Memorial Complex, established in May 2001 and inaugurated by U.S. President Bill Clinton.
